Bo Sang Umbrella Festival (January). The nearby handicraft village celebrates its famous painted paper umbrellas with parades and craft displays.
Chiang Mai Flower Festival (Early February). A colorful three-day celebration of the cool-season blooms with floral floats and parades.
Songkran (Thai New Year) (April 13–15). The nationwide water festival is especially exuberant here, with citywide water fights around the Old City moat.
Inthakin (City Pillar) Festival (May / June). A traditional Lanna rite at Wat Chedi Luang to bless and protect the city, with flower offerings.
Yi Peng & Loy Krathong (November (full moon)). Chiang Mai's magical lantern festival, when thousands of glowing sky lanterns and river krathongs are released.
